If you’re interested in launching a teaching career, University of Phoenix can help. We offer two options through our Phoenix and Southern Arizona Campuses that provide a direct path to teaching through state-approved alternative route programs.
- Teacher Preparation Program (TPP)
- For those interested in teaching elementary or middle school, or k-12 special education
- For those interested in teaching grades 9 through 12
Both programs address Arizona’s Professional Teaching Standards and academic standards, curriculum, effective teaching practices, exceptional and English language learners, classroom management strategies, and school law. During these programs, you’ll engage in course activities, as well as reflect on and analyze readings, videos and experiences. Participating districts will provide training about district policies, building-level procedures, and parental involvement strategies.
Earn your certification and master’s degree conveniently and efficiently.
- Complete a nine-week training course with either the TPP or ASPC program and become eligible for an Arizona Intern Certificate.
- With available vacancies, begin teaching right away as an intern teacher—while continuing to earn your master’s degree.
- Make a two-year teaching commitment with an approved district partner. (Failure to complete this requirement will result in the loss of the teaching position under the Intern Certificate. Intern Certificates are not portable to any other district than originally declared.) Position of hire must be in the content area of major or exam completion for the two-year commitment.
- Continue and enroll in a University of Phoenix Master of Arts in Education (MAED) program and waive up to six credits.
- Choose your specialization: Elementary, Secondary or Special Education.
- Attend classes online or at convenient times at our Phoenix and Southern Arizona Campuses.
